What is Beta-Alanine?
Beta-alanine is a non-essential amino acid that the body uses to produce carnosine — a dipeptide stored in skeletal muscle. Carnosine acts as a buffer against lactic acid buildup during high-intensity exercise, delaying the burning sensation and fatigue that forces you to slow down or stop.

Why Does Beta-Alanine Cause Tingling?
The tingling — technically called paraesthesia — is the most talked-about aspect of beta-alanine and the source of most confusion. It's caused by beta-alanine binding to sensory nerve receptors under the skin, particularly on the face, neck, hands and chest.
It is completely harmless. No study has found any adverse health effect from beta-alanine paraesthesia. It typically begins 15–20 minutes after a dose and lasts 60–90 minutes. Most people find it subsides significantly after a few weeks of consistent use as the body adapts.

How to Take Beta-Alanine

Taurine — beta-alanine competes with taurine for the same transport into cells. Taking very high doses of beta-alanine long-term may deplete taurine. If taking above 4g daily long-term, consider adding 500mg–1g taurine.
