What is Magnesium Glycinate?
Magnesium glycinate is magnesium bound to glycine, an amino acid. This binding dramatically improves absorption compared to cheaper forms like oxide or carbonate — and the glycine itself has independent calming and sleep-promoting effects.

How to Take Magnesium Glycinate
Check elemental magnesium on the label, not total capsule weight. "500mg magnesium glycinate" ≠ 500mg of magnesium. Most people need 4–6 capsules to reach 300mg elemental magnesium.
What NOT to Take With Magnesium
Zinc and Iron — both compete for the same absorption pathways. Take magnesium at least 2 hours apart from zinc or iron supplements.
Calcium — high-dose calcium can reduce magnesium absorption. Take them at separate times if both are above 500mg.
Vitamin D — a positive interaction. Magnesium is required to activate vitamin D. If you take D3, adequate magnesium makes it significantly more effective.
Antibiotics — some antibiotics bind to magnesium and reduce absorption of both. Space them by at least 2 hours.
